How we buy your electricity

The right electricity contract depends on how much you use, when you use it, how much price risk you can live with and how your budget works. We start by understanding your usage and your business, then tender your supply across the 17 major energy companies we contract with, who all bring different skills and pricing.

Fixed-price contracts

Your unit rates and standing charges are fixed for the term, usually one to five years. You get budget certainty, and we lock the price in at a good point in the market.

Flexible purchasing

For larger users, buying your energy in several tranches as the market moves can cost less than buying all at once. We manage the timing and keep you informed.

Multi-site contracts

If you run several sites, we can bring every meter onto one common end date so you buy as one larger customer and renew in one go. See multi-site portfolios.

Buying at the right time

Wholesale prices move every day. We monitor the market so we can forward-purchase your electricity at the low points, rather than whenever your renewal letter happens to arrive. We can start this even if you're currently in a contract.

Business electricity FAQs

What happens if my electricity contract ends and I haven't renewed?

You'll usually move onto out-of-contract or deemed rates, which are typically much higher than contract prices. If that's happened, contact us and we'll move you onto a proper contract as quickly as possible.

How early should I start looking at my renewal?

Ideally six months before your contract ends. That gives us time to watch the market and buy at a good point, and to give your current supplier any notice your contract requires.

Fixed or flexible: which is right for my business?

Most small and medium businesses are best served by a fixed contract for budget certainty. Flexible purchasing suits larger users who can accept some price movement in return for potentially lower costs. We'll talk you through both.
